Over 2000 graduate from UMI

A total of 2050 students have graduated with various management degrees and diplomas at the Uganda Management Institute (UMI) on Friday.

Out of this, 956 are men while the remaining 1094 are women who got diplomas, masters and PhD degrees.

The ceremony which was held at the UMI main campus in Kampala, was graced by President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni as the guest of honour and several top educationists in the country.

This is the 16^th time the institute is passing out students and it's the first time ever since its creation for the President to visit. His visit today made him the first Ugandan head of state to reach the institution.

 
Speaking at the ceremony, Museveni urged the graduands to use the skills learned to help get solutions to issues of management in the public sector.

"I appeal to you, both the trainers and consumers of the trainees, lets solve the problems in management," he said.

He noted that the knowledge the graduands have earned is for a purpose and they should resolve the management needs of the society.

 
Among some of the notable graduands was the Parliament's publicist, Chris Obore who got a master's degree in Management studies and the Office of the Director of Public Prosecution's publicist, Jane Okuo Kajuga, who received a master's degree in institutional management and leadership.

Namirembe Bitamazire, the chancellor of UMI, advised the graduands to apply the knowledge they have learned to better management and administration in the various sectors they work in.

 
She also urged the public sector to tap into the skills these students have learned during the course of their study at the institution.

James Nkata, the institution's director general, said that unlike the previous years, this year they have been able to graduate their first PhD students. They were only three students of management and administration.
