NOTICE OF DEFAULT IN PAYMENT OF FEES AND ROYALTIES FOR MINERAL EXPLORATION, DEVELOPMENT AND PRODUCTION IN UGANDA 31st March 2018.

The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development through the Directorate of Geological Survey and Mines has been issuing notices to Mineral Rights Holders reminding them to pay license fees, but many have not complied. Under the Mining Act (2003), those who default on payment of royalties for Mineral Rights are liable to a fine of up to 2% per annum above the commercial bank lending rate as established by the Bank of Uganda or to imprisonment for a term not exceeding one year, or both.

This therefore is a final call to all the listed Mineral Rights Holders/Agents to settle their outstanding fees and royalty arrears within twenty one (21) days from the date of publication of this notice or else face prosecution in accordance with Section 105 of the Mining Act (2003) without any further notice at your own peril and associated costs.

The Ministry shall take further appropriate actions against the listed defaulters without any further notice and shall reject any new applications for Mineral Rights where there is proof that one or more of the Directors are a Director of a non-compliant company/firm.
