President Yoweri Museveni has called for extension of rural electrification to more villages in the country.

"Uganda has 7000 villages, 1500 sub-counties. Some 287 out of the sub counties and their villages still require electricity connection through rural electrification implementation," he said according to a release from State House.

The President was on Tuesday discussing strategic areas of investment in the country, among them rural electrification, with the visiting managing director of Lexicon PR management services limited, Ramma Luthra and his delegation who called on him at State House, Entebbe.

Lexicon Company is based in New Delhi, India.

During the meeting, the Indian entrepreneurs expressed interest in ventures like modernising Entebbe Airport to international standards, manufacturing sector, oil pipeline, water pipelines and distribution and ship building for water transport on Lake Victoria in anticipation of decongesting and easing transport network within the region.

Museveni also advised the Indian investors to look into the production of industrial alcohol out of carbohydrate-laden crops like cassava.
