Dan Sserunkuma got the lone goal as Vipers picked up a massive 1-0 result away to table leaders SC Villa as the fever heightened in the Azam Premier League title race on a crucial day on Tuesday.

With two-time defending champions KCCA dropping two points away to Onduparaka in a 1-1 draw, Vipers had even more reason to celebrate as their victory pushed them to second position, three points behind SC Villa, who stay on 49 points from 24 games.

KCCA moved to 45 points, but Mike Mutebi's team missed a great opportunity to take advantage of Villa's set back and with games running out, the champions may come to rue this draw.

KCCA and Vipers have a game in hand on Villa but it is the Entebbe-based outfit who will move on from herewith a spring in their step. In Arua, it was returning home boy Shaban Mohammed who netted for KCCA, opening the scoring in seventh minute, to a mixed reaction.

Mohammed, back for the first time since his controversial transfer to KCCA, did not celebrate his strike. But KCCA would not build on Mohammed's goal as Onduparaka fought back in the second half and levelled matters through Vianney Sekajugo's73rd minute goal. KCCA coach Mike Mutebi sounded worried of his sides' title chances. "I am worried because it is going to be very hard for us to win the title.

But we still have the chances," he said. "We should have won the match in the first half, but we were tireless. We had so many chances but we did not utilise them," added a disappointed Mutebi after the brisk encounter. At Wankulukuku, Express climbed out of the relegation zone thanks to a 2-0 victory over fellow strugglers UPDF.

Michael Birungi and Jalil Zimula got the goals for the Red Eagles, who moved to 12th position on 25 points, two ahead of the drop zone.

Proline also won but stayed third from bottom on 23pointsdespitea 3-1victoryover Police at Lugogo.

Daniel Isiagi scored a brace and Gift Ali got the other while Ben Ocen got the consolation for Police. Action continues today, with Mbarara hosting Bul FC and Masavu welcoming Soana.
