Ford foundation commends Nnabagereka

The organisation promised more support to the kingdom’s developmental projects.

Ford Foundation has hailed the Nnabagereka of Buganda for initiating programmes intended to enhance the quality of life of Ugandans.

Sylvia Nagginda through the Nnabagereka Development Foundation (NDF) has supported projects for children, especially the girl-child, women healthcare and reproductive health.

"We are honoured to fund these initiatives that promote culture through instilling values among the youth. We hope to continue to working with you in future," Ford Foundation vice president Martin Abregu said.

During the one day multi-disciplinary dialogue on promoting values-based youth agency and leadership at Bulange Mengo, Abregu promised more support to the kingdom's developmental projects.

"Traditional leaders have a great role to play in promotion of democracy, justice and freedom of expression because their subjects hold a lot of respect for them," he said.

Abregu who is the vice president for the foundation's programme on democracy, justice and free expression in Africa added that through promotion of cultural value social and economic transformation can be achieved.

Nagginda applauded Ford Foundation for the support that enables Nnabagereka Development Foundation (NDF) reach out to the less privileged in society.

Nnabagereka said that the Kisaakaate that instill cultural values among the young has been instrumental in promoting their morals. She said that it aims at equipping the youth with life skills to avoid pitfalls.

According to her, cultural institutions have played a very big role to play in giving people especially the youth the vital information that they need to develop the life skills to avoid problems in the future.

"We are not just acknowledging the fact, but we realize that people don't have information. So we as cultural institutions need to give that that information because the cultural voice is more believable in many cases more than politicians," she said.

Katikiiro Charles Peter Mayiga has called on the youth in the Kingdom to be innovative so as to support the Kingdom in its bid to revive its former glory.

"The youth should be innovative and use culture to develop the kingdom. The youth should be truthful, humane and honesty," Mayiga said.
