The Uganda Law Society (ULS) has condemned the re-arrest of renowned Muslim cleric Dr. Ismail Kalule who is accused of terrorism. The body described the re-arrest as contempt of court and that such actions should stop.

Kalule was arrested by security personnel on Tuesday after International Criminal Division of High Court based in Kololo released him on bail pending the trial. Presided over by Justice Mukiibi, the court had released him on sh20m noncash bail and sureties bonded at sh10m non cash.

After his arrest, Kalule was whisked away to unknown destination by car registration number UAH 738Z.

Simon Peter Kinobe, the ULS new president explained that the body has always advised the government against such acts but state agencies continue to violate the aspect with lots impunity.

"We are here as ULS to say that court orders should be respected. We are in talks with the Chief Justice and we have told him to issue a last warning to the state that should this issue happen again, the courts should be closed," said Kinobe.

During the press conference at ULS offices in Kololo on Wednesday, Kinobe warned that the sanctity of the court and its promises should be preserved at all times.

"Court orders when issued should be respected and not violated by overly ambitious officials. We shall wait for the Chief Justice's communication on this and we shall follow suite in support of whatever he will have communicated to the state as last warning," he explained.

This is not the first time that suspects have been re-arrested after being granted bail. One of the recent similar incidences was the November last year's re-arrest of seven out the 14 people suspected to have been in connection with the murder of former Police Spokesperson Andrew Felix Kaweesi.

The ULS Chief Executive Officer, Joyce Nalunga noted that in case the Government doesn't consider their demands, the body will take legal action on the individuals that were involved in the re-arrest.
