In pictures: Ugandans celebrate Easter with prayer

Christ is risen today! Faithful in Uganda put prayer ahead of anything else on a day of celebration of the resurrection of the Lord.

FESTIVE SEASON


Christians across the land on Sunday attended prayers to mark the resurrection of Jesus Christ, on the third after his death.

It was a mood of celebration at All Saints Cathedral, Nakasero in the capital Kampala.

Several miles away, in Kasese district, Christians attended morning prayers St. Barnabas Saluti Church of Uganda in Kasese town.

During service,  Vicar Japheth Mbatonda warned the faithful against merely attending Church for the sake of making an appearance.

It was a similar mood at Mukono Church of Uganda during the Easter Sunday morning service. In attendance was Ruth Nkoyoyo, the wife of the late Archbishop Livingstone Mpalanyi Nkoyoyo.

Bishop James William Ssebaggala of Mukono diocese led the service.

Five children were baptized on Easter Sunday at St. Barnabas Church of Uganda in Bumadu archdeconary by Rev Honest Kabasomi.

This was in Bundibugyo district.

 

 

 

The Easter service was led by Julius Tumwesigye, the archdeacon of Bumadu, under Rwenzori diocese.

He urged Christians to celebrate Easter while they plan for the future as well as raise their children in a Godly way.

Bishop Sabino Ocan Odoki led Christians through Easter prayers at Ediofe Cathedral in Arua.

At Rubaga Cathedral in Kampala, the Archbishop of Kampala, Dr Cyprian Kizito Lwanga, led the Easter Mass.
