KAMPALA - Makerere University students have been warned against having a negative attitude and complaining, if they are to become successful in the careers.

Joachim Masagazi, the manager operations at Mobile Telephone Network, told Makerere University students to always be positive and avoid lamenting.

Masagazi was speaking during careers day lecture at Makerere University in Kampala over the weekend.

The event, which was organised by Mastercard Foundation Scholars programme in conjunction with Makerere University counseling and guidance centre, was under the theme Understanding the employment environment in Uganda.

The students were lectured on topics such as communication and problem-solving skills, networking, adaptability to various scenarios and personal presentation, among others.

Masagazi advised students to always be prepared when attending interviews.

“Opportunity lands on those who are already dancing on the floor,” he said.

Masagazi also emphasised the importance of integrity, honesty and accountability, which employers seek.

Asked about corruption, especially when ladies are asked for sex in exchange for employment, Masagazi told ladies not to be intimated.

Dr Eunice Adubango, a lecturer at the college of engineering at Makerere University emphasised that one’s competence should always speak for them.
