The pendulum has definitely swung Nkumba University’s way in the battle for volleyball supremacy with VVC.

The rivalry came to its head in the National League Finals last December and ever since VVC has failed to find a solution two what Nkumba is serving up time and time again.

Uganda’s top two women’s sides met in the 9-12 place match where the winner had a crack at breaking into the top 10 teams on the continent.

Just like they did in the National League Finals Nkumba University rose to the occasion with a 3-0 straight sets (25-20, 25-14, and 25-10) win over VVC at the Al Ahly Sports Hall.

Best purely on head to head in recent history the onus was on VVC to try and break the losing streak but once again failed to do the job.

After the Ugandan derby, Nkumba’s coach Tony Lakony believes his side’s game plan forced VVC to veer of course handing them the win.

“We capitalised on strong and consistent serves, which forced VVC to change plans as the middle attack was phased off,” he admitted.

His stars during the spell binding performance were Astreede Agaba and  Habiba Namala whose attacks put pressure on VVC.

Coach Lakony’s target was to finish in the top ten and with that performance over his nemesis he done better with a win over INJS of Cameroon to finish 9th on the continent.

Fundraising drives continue

KAVC and Nemostars are in the final stages of preparations for the men’s version of the Africa Club Championships.
