Uganda launches presidential fast-track HIV situation room to monitor progress towards ending the aids epidemic by 2030

The President of the Republic of Uganda, His Excellency Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, in partnership with UNAIDS Executive Director, Michel Sidibé launched an innovative new tool to track progress and identify gaps in HIV programming in Uganda during the International Women's Day on 8th March 2018, in Mityana. The Situation Room shows real-time HIV/AIDS service delivery data, producing a comprehensive picture and understanding of Uganda's epidemic.

It enables feedback on results at the national and district level programme coverage as well bottlenecks to access. The Situation Room enables communication between policy-makers and implementers to track progress towards HIV/AIDS epidemic control.

Latest data from the Situation Room shows that by December 2017, Uganda had about one million people on anti-retroviral treatment out of about 1.3 million people living with HIV. At the same time, new HIV infections have continued to decline, falling by approximately 40% during 2010 - 2017.

Furthermore, AIDS-related deaths have also continued to decline, falling over by 60% during this period as access to antiretroviral treatment was scaled up. By the end of 2017, close to 80% of people living with HIV in Uganda had access to lifesaving antiretroviral treatment.

Data from the recently concluded Uganda population-based HIV impact Assessment (UPHIA). Survey showed that about 60% of HIV infected individuals in the country had suppressed viral load. CLICK HERE FOR MORE ON THIS NOTICE
