President meets 2017 Global Impact Challenge winners

The Global Impact Challenge is an annual competition held to identify outstanding entrepreneurs, leaders, scientists with the most innovative ideas for moonshot innovation that can positively impact a billion people in 10 years.

President Yoweri Museveni has met Beth Koigi Wanjiku and Elisha Sammy Bwatuti, the winners of the 2017 Global Impact Challenge at the Speke Resort Munyonyo in Kampala.
 
The President met the duo on Thursday at the dinner that he hosted for the visiting East African Community Heads of State who are in the country for the 19th Ordinary Summit of the EAC leaders. The EAC member countries are Burundi, Kenya, Rwanda, South Sudan, Tanzania and Uganda.
 
The Global Impact Challenge is an annual competition held to identify outstanding entrepreneurs, leaders, scientists and engineers with the most innovative ideas for moonshot innovation and startups that can positively impact a billion people in 10 years. The winners of each challenge receive a full sponsorship to attend one of Singularity University's transformational programmes.
 
Koigi developed an application that enables people in rural areas harvest clean water from arid and semi-arid areas in Kenya, while Bwatuti's application will enable farmers to collect and analyse data for useful farming information.
 
According to Nicholas Haan, the vice-president of Singularity University, there is a lot of potential in the youth and their ideas to address challenges.
 
President Museveni congratulated the winners and invited them to State House to learn more about their applications and how the Government can adopt them to address environmental and climate issues.
