KAMPALA - In commemoration of the 139 years since Uganda received her first missionaries, the Kampala Archdiocese has organised a conversation in honour of the evangelical work of Pere Simeon Lourdel aka Mapeera and Bro. Delmas Amans.

The event will take place at Sacred Heart of Mary Cathedral Rubaga in Kampala on Thursday. It will be under the theme, "The Catholic Church and Buganda Kingdom 1879-2018: Together in the Service of Life."

The Archbishop of Kampala Archdiocese, Dr Cyprian Kizito Lwanga, urged Christians and well-wishers to participate in the conversation.

He said the one-day conference focuses on the works of the two missionaries, their relationship with Buganda Kingdom and Catholic Church.

Lwanga revealed that the Katikkiro of Buganda, Charles Peter Mayigga, will be one the speakers.

"Mapeera and Amans were revered for their faith, courage, and countercultural witness to Jesus Christ," Lwanga said.

He added that Uganda Martyrs form an integral part of the history of the Roman Catholic Church, not only in Uganda, but also in Africa.
