Africa is basking in the Marvel Cinematic Universal following the release of 2018 American superhero film, Black Panther on February 14 in cinemas across the continent.

In Uganda, the film premiers February 14 at invite-only function in Kampala, triggering unconfined ecstasy among cinemagoers.

But then, shelving that aside and  besides the fact that the movie stars two actors of Ugandan origin, Daniel Kaluuya and Florence Kasumba, among the black star-studded cast, cinemagoers will or will not notice…er ahem…folks,  a little spoiler will not hurt here…that some scenes were actually filmed on location from Uganda.

The film, directed by Ryan Coogler,  stars Chadwick Boseman as T'Challa, Michael B. Jordan, Lupita Nyong'o, Danai Gurira, Martin Freeman, Kaluuya,  Forest Whitaker, and Kasumba.

It is set in the mystical and fictional African nation, Wakanda, telling the story of T’Challa, the King of Wakanda who returns home to take his rightful place as king of the isolated, technologically advanced African nation following the death of his father.

The Black Panther has access to a vast collection of magical artifacts, advanced Wakandan technological and military hardware, as well as the support of his nation’s wide array of scientists, warriors, and mystics.

The film is produced by Marvel Studios and distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures. It is the 18th film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Enjoy some beauty from Uganda on your screen.
