Man held over defiling two girls

Kayondo was arrested on Monday after a parent of one of the victims reported a case of defilement at Kamengo Police Station involving her six-year-old daughter, who had gone together with others to fetch water from the village well.

MPIGI - The Police in Mpigi have detained an 18-year-old man for allegedly defiling two girls and attempting to defile another while going to fetch water at the village well.

According to Joseph Musana, the Police publicist for Katonga region, the suspect was identified as Moses Kayondo, a resident of Magejo village, Kamengo sub-county, Mpigi district.

Kayondo was arrested on Monday after a parent of one of the victims reported a case of defilement at Kamengo Police Station involving her six-year-old daughter, who had gone together with others to fetch water from the village well.

"The Police received a complaint from one parent and we launched investigations into the matter. Two other parents reported cases of defilement and attempted defilement respectively at Kammengo Police station, which led us to arrest Kayondo," Musana said.

Kayondo had just been released from Kampiringisa rehabilitation centre in Mpigi after he clocked years of age.

It is said that after his release in December last year, he went on rampage, chasing after young girls not until he defiled two minors and another girl was only saved by villagers.

Musana said Kayondo was first briefly detained at Kammengo Police Station and he was later transferred to Mpigi Central Police Station, where he is currently being detained.

"The Police is still gathering evidence to pin him in courts of law. As soon as we are done with investigations, we shall produce him before court to answer defilement charges," Musana said.

He said the Police is going to take the suspect for mental check-up and the victims are will be subjected to an HIV test.
