IBANDA-Thieves have broken into St. Balikuddembe Nyakateete Catholic Centre Church in Ibanda town and stole a number of items.

The thieves stole the offertory money, speakers, stabilizers and music instruments such as guitars, and amplifiers among others.

Fr. Respicous Kiiza, the Bubaare Catholic Parish curate said that the thieves broke a padlock and entered the church on Wednesday.

"When they entered the Church, they went through the ceiling above the altar to gain access of the room where the valuables were kept," Fr. said. He also said the equipment stolen is valued at sh5m.

The thieves also vandalized the Holly Virgin Mary's house and tabernacle where altar wine and hosts are kept.

The Ibanda district police commander, Michael Akaturinda said police have not yet arrested any suspect in regard to the robbery.

However, he believes that the thieves could be part of the gang terrorizing residents in the municipality and its suburbs.

Meanwhile, Rev Fr. Kiiza launched a nine-day-prayer meeting at Nyakatete Catholic Center in Bubare Parish intended to rehabilitate robbers in the district.
