KIBAALE - Two-month-old twins perished in a fire that gutted the temporally house in Kacu village in Bubango sub-county in Kibaale district.

The Police commander for Kibaale, David Otabong said a resident identified as Gaudensi Katusabe set fire at a nearby bush. She had wanted to clear the bush in preparation for the planting season.

Otabong said the fire that was lit at around midday spread fast and Katusabe could not put it off. The fire engulfed the house where the twins were resting and burnt them to death.

Otabong said that the case has already been registered at Kibaale Police station on case reference number CRB/124/2018.

Gerald Mujuni 26, the twins' father reported the matter to the Police.
Preliminary investigations reveal that Katusabe attempted to commit suicide after the incident, but police and residents arrested her before taking her own life.

A postmortem examination has been done and the remains were handed over to relatives for burial.

Katusabe is now in police custody as investigations into the matter continue and the file has been forwarded to the resident state attorney for perusal and advice on the charges to be preferred against her.

Man kills two children

In a related incident, a man in his 70s on Tuesday morning hacked two children to death and also cut his wife one Jeniva Kyaligonza, 21.

Erikanjeru Bahagizi later took his own life when he heard that residents had mounted a spirited hunt for him.

The incident happened in Kitoonya village Bubango sub-county, Kibaale district.

Residents close to the family said Kyalikora, who is admitted at EMESCO Health centre, got married to Erikanjeru with the two children just last month.

The children aged three and one belonged to another man. The police identified the deceased children as Benson Nuwamanya and Mathias Akampa. One of the children died on spot, while the other died at Kibaale health centre IV.

According to residents, the couple has had a misunderstanding for several days after the woman allegedly denied the man his conjugal rights.
