KAMPALA - Legendary Limit-X singer, Isaac Rucci has been elected as the president of the Federation of Gospel Artistes of Uganda.

The elections saw other members of the committee chosen in a ceremony that took place recently at Watooto Church Central, in Kampala.

Fellow legendary singer, Martin Sseku of the Koona endongo ya Yesu fame was also elected as Rucci’s deputy and the committee will be charged with championing improvements and unity among the local gospel music fraternity.

“We came to a conclusion that we are to register all Ugandan gospel artistes and the federation will tackle issues like ensuring Christian events are done on a professional level. It is also geared towards discouraging free gospel events so gospel artistes can also prosper through their talents. More so, we are looking into gospel music becoming autonomous,” Sseku explained.

Other members on the committee include Hum Kay, Wamala Henry, Betty Muwanguzi, Sami K and DJ Twongex, among several others representing various regions in the country.

The federation is also planning this year’s VIGA award events, starting with the nomination’s bash that will take place on March 3, at the National Theatre grounds.

The awards ceremony itself will take place on March 31 at the Imperial Royale Hotel.

The federation is also organising monthly fellowships for gospel artistes at Mabirizi plaza, in the city centre. This will be sponsored by Christ’s Heart Ministries.

“We also will have 31st end of year party organised by gospel artistes, djs, dancers and various bands, starting with 2018. We plan to also have the annual artistes’ convention in May to launch a SACCOS for gospel artistes and gather gospel artistes from all regions,” Sseku added.
