KAMPALA - Makerere University school of law has resumed evening lectures.

Last week lecturers suspended evening classes, saying they would only resume teaching if management cleared their salaries for the services offered to evening students.

In a phone interview with one of the student leaders, Mariam Kirabo, the 2nd year law student representative said for over four months, lecturers have not been paid their allowances for evening classes that is why they decided to put down their feet.

However, the university vice-chancellor Prof. Barnabas Nawangwe, cleared the air this morning, saying that the university council had resolved to compensate staff working on evening programmes.

"The current misunderstandings regarding evening teaching at Makerere are caused by lack of communication. The council resolved to compensate staff working on evening programmes and management is working on modalities to implement that decision," said in his Twitter handle.

Nawangwe also appealed to staff and students to remain calm.
