Car kills a mechanic in Soroti Police barracks

ACCIDENT


SOROTI - A mechanic working with Rock Trust Contractors (U) limited, which is tarmacking roads in Soroti municipality was on Thursday killed by a lorry in Soroti Police barracks.
 
The Police identified the deceased as Dan Opolot, 30, a resident of Kanyumu sub-county in Kumi district, but he has been staying in Pamba ward in Soroti town.
 
East Kyoga Police spokesperson Michael Odongo said Opolot was repairing the tyres of a tipper lorry registration number UAZ908X.
 
According to the Police, Opolot was squeezed to death by the lorry, which he had supported using the big stones, before trying to remove the jerk.

"Attempts by his colleagues to save Opolot's life were futile," Odongo said. 
 
Although the postmortem is yet to be done, Odongo said the Opolot's right arm chest was pressed down by the lorry, which could have resulted in his death.
 
Opolot's body has been taken to Nakatunya mortuary as investigations into the cause of the death continue.
 
Meanwhile, the Police in Soroti is stuck with a body of a man who was knocked dead near Otucopi on Soroti-Katakwi Road on Thursday.
 
Police explained that the motorcycle registration number UEJ988T collided with another motorcycle UAZ183X Bajaj boxer red in colour.

The rider of motorcycle number UEJ988T, which was heading towards Soroti died when he was being rushed to Soroti Hospital 3.30pm, according to the Police. The other rider is also nursing injuries at the same hospital.
