KAMPALA - In an effort to counter the blood shortage that has recently hit the country, the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) youth league has rallied its members across the country to donate blood.

Addressing the press on Monday at the FDC headquarters in Najjanankumbi, Kampala, the FDC national youth league vice-chairperson, Mulindwa Walid Lubega, appealed to all party supporters to donate blood in order save lives of Ugandans.

"We were saddened by a story that recently ran in the media where families in Bundibugyo are resorting to using blood from guinea pig and soda to substitute blood transfusion. We call on Ugandans to come together for this cause," Lubega said.

Lubega said FDC as a government in waiting is duty-bound to rally Ugandans for such noble causes.

He attributed the shortage of blood to the increasing road accidents in the country and appealed to Ugandans not to look at this as a Bundibugyo issue, but rather as a national crisis, which can affect anybody at any time.

Asinansi Nyakato, FDC's health national executive secretary, revealed that the party will hold a blood donation campaign week effective January 27, where Ugandans can freely walk in and donate blood.

She revealed that the donation will start at the party headquarters, and then be rolled out to other places such as Makerere University, Kyambogo University, City House and Jinja.
