ARUA - Much as hotel owners in Arua are prepared to accommodate guests from various corners of Uganda and neighbouring countries to mark the National Resistant Movement 32nd celebrations, most hotels have few rooms.

The only hotel with the highest number of rooms is Desert Breeze with 40.

Joseph Lukwago, the manager of Desert Breeze Hotel, said despite the few rooms, they are ready to accommodate guests.

He said although they have not received special bookings from the NRM Day, Lukwago cites accommodation challenges. He urged those in charge to book early to avoid inconveniences.

Lukwago explained that the hotel operates on first-come-first serve basis and therefore, the earlier they book, the better.

On the issue of security, Lukwago said on occasions such as the NRM Day, the hotels beef up their security by inviting the Police.

On the other hand, Jackson Atima, the proprietor Hill Top Hotel, is optimistic.

“The coming of the NRM Day to Arua is a big opportunity for the businesspeople. The hotels are ready to accommodate guests,” Atima said.

Atima, however, noted that the number of hotels in Arua are not sufficient to host national events and appealed to the business community to expand on the hotel business.

During the 2013 Tarehe Sita celebrations in Arua, some guests were forced to book hotels in Gulu, Nebbi and other neigbouring districts.

On the issue of security, Atima said the various hotels have been briefed by the office of the resident district commissioner and their personnel trained on how to identify wrong elements.

According to Atima, because Arua is moving towards attaining city status, the Government needs to financially boost capacity of the businesspeople to promote development.

Rebecca Agani, the manager Rose Villa Hotel, said they will host 13 guests as that is their capacity.

She, however, said they have partnered with other hotels to ensure they refer guests for accommodation.

Mahmud Abdala, the founder of West Nile Effort for Museveni, on his part said the NRM mobilisers have engaged in a cleaning exercise to make Arua clean ahead of the NRM Day celebrations.

Besides the cleaning exercise, which started Monday, they have also started mobilising people to embrace the day and support the activities with traditional dances and a football game.
