ACCIDENT

MUKONO - Three people have perished in a road accident that occurred on Saturday night at Lwanyonyi village in Nama sub-county, Mukono district.

The Mukono division Police commander, Rogers Sseguya, said the head-on collision on the Kampala-Jinja highway involved two trucks; a Fuso registration number UAL 325L and a Canter number UAR 132R.

Sseguya said the victims are Idi Kapere, the Canter driver and businessman, a boy he was with and a suspected turn-boy for the Fuso truck, who is yet to be identified.

According to Kapere’s national identity card, he was a resident of Kawaala village in Kampala.

The Fuso truck was coming from Kampala-Jinja, while Canter driver was coming from Jinja, heading to Kampala. The accident occurred at around 11:00pm.

Over 150 off-layers in Kapere’s truck also died.

Sseguya said the accident was caused by reckless driving. “The Fuso driver lost control, crossed from his lane to that for the vehicles coming from Jinja and collided with the Canter driver,” Sseguya said. However, the driver ran after the accident.

The bodies of the accident victims were taken to Kawolo Hospital for a postmortem examination.
