Golfers from across the country have a chance of winning a sh235m Pajero every month until July, at the second edition of the Singleton Challenge starting on Saturday at Entebbe Club.
The seven-month challenge is a four-ball-better-ball match play tournament that is held once every month.
The winning pair from every month advances to the challenge finale that will be played in July.
The winners stand a chance of playing alongside established professionals in a Pro-AM event of the DP golf series at the Jumeirah Golf Estates Club in Dubai.
This is on top of free DStv subscriptions and DStv Explorers, golfing experiences at the Lake Victoria Serena Golf Resort and a fully paid trip to Dubai and free air tickets courtesy of RwandAir.
The chairman of the organising committee Innocent Kihika told a press conference at Serena Hotel on Wednesday that this year’s event is going to be more exciting and bigger, with over 190 golfers competing in the first event, which is a qualifier for the main event. He said the 19th hole theme for the first edition is ‘Caribbean’.
“There are over 80 pairs as we speak, but we only need 64 for the main event so they will be a cut off after the medal format of play on Saturday,” Kihika explained.
Those who do not make it to the main draw will continue playing in the subsidiary event on for a chance to win other prizes in their respective Groups; A, B, C for men, and A and B for women.
Annette Nakiyaga, Luxury Manager (Reserve) at Uganda Breweries Limited unveiled a sh350m sponsorship for the event saying last year’s event was very successful, the reason they have offered more golfers chance to participate through a qualifier.
“The additional sponsors make it bigger and better with golfers having a chance to win a brand new Pajero Sport every month (for 7 months) which is the first of its kind in Uganda; it is just amazing,” Nakiyaga noted.
“Any golfer can win this trip and I urge golfers participate and to be smart at the 19th hole themed parties so as to bring out the taste of the event,”
The co-sponsors were represented by Grace Njeri (Pinnacle), EKSPRESSO (John Katto) who is going to provide snacks at the half way house and monthly dinners, Ada Magezi (RwandAir), Paul Bazibwe (Victoria Motors) and Tina Wamala (DStv) who announced a sh20m cash sponsorship as well as Explorer decoders with 3 months subscriptions for the monthly winners and a grand prize of a year’s subscription on the premium bouquet for the overall winning pair.
