Having joined the great majority, Francis Ekalungar will forever remain in the hearts of many Ugandan cricket faithful. That is that!

The seasoned veteran umpire did not see much of 2018 as he was confirmed dead on Wednesday after he went missing for three days.

In what must have been a grisly death, his “burnt” body was found in Kajjansi according to a Police report.

Ekalungar was on the Africa Elite Panel of umpires. He and Patrick Makumbi represented Uganda. At the time of his death, he was an accountant at the Case Clinic

His priceless contributions to Ugandan Cricket include mentoring young umpires; he was a key figure in the Jinja Association of Cricket Clubs set up and Jinja SS as well.

“It is so sad and as it stands we are still waiting for more details about burial arrangements” said Martin Ondeko, UCA chief operations officer

In his recent international engagements, Ekalungar officiated at last year’ ICC T20 Women’s Africa World Cup Qualifier in Namibia where Uganda won the championship.

The 49 year old Ekalungar is survived by four children. Meanwhile the family is still waiting for the final DNA results and until then burial arrangements are yet to be confirmed.
