The Uganda Handball Federation intends to take the sport to universities starting with this year.

Saudha Babirye, the federation secretary said many talented players tend to give up on the sport to concentrate on studies once they enter university.

“We want to penetrate universities so that they can be able to accommodate the number of handball players leaving high school,” Babirye said.

Currently only Ndejje, Nkumba and Makerere University have teams  in the national league.

Babirye said having Universities competing in the league will improve the standard of the game and also widen the players’ pool for national team selection.
