Age limit Bill:  Opposition says 'we did our best'

The Opposition in Parliament has implored Ugandans to show them the next course of action in the battle against the passed Constitution (Amendment) Bill, to lift the presidential age limit.

In a news conference on Friday  at the parliamentary building in Kampala, the opposition MPs led by Winnie Kiiza, the leader of Opposition in Parliament told  journalists that they had embarked on a new campaign dubbed Kojikuteko (Now that you have touched the Constitution) in which they want Ugandans to guide them on the way forward.

"We tried our best, we now want to hand over the battle to Ugandans, we have had a lot of success in this struggle, we have been able to expose the regime, you thought you had people who legislate on your behalf, but you have now been able to see the people who only present their own views," Kiiza said.

On Wednesday, Parliament passed the Constitution (Amendment) Bill, removing the 75 presidential age limit and also restored the term limits for elected leaders.

The law which is pending assent by President Yoweri Museveni also saw MPs increase their tenure to seven years, from Five years.
