No hemorrhagic fever in Mubende - health ministry

Dec 19, 2017

Nakaliika Serwanjja said the samples taken from Mubende have tested negative to all suspected VHFs including Ebola, Marburg, CCHF and Rift Valley fever

The health ministry has assured the public that there is no viral hemorrhagic fever (VHF) in Mubende district as earlier suspected.

Vivian Nakaliika Serwanjja, the health ministry's public relations officer said the Public Health Emergency Operation Centre of the health ministry received an alert of suspected VHF infection in Mubende district recently.

"A team of experts was immediately dispatched to collect samples that were sent to Uganda Virus Research Institute for testing.

"However, the samples tested negative to all suspected VHFs including Ebola, Marburg, Crimean-Congo hemorrhagic fever (CCHF), Rift Valley fever and Sosuga.

"Therefore, basing on the results, all management of cases and community surveillance are being ably handled by the District Rapid Response team as more investigations take course," she said.

She, however, said the national team remains on stand by for when need arises.
