7 things you can do with Bamboo

Over 400,000 youths graduate annually but only 150,000 get jobs and others are left hanging that some become a burden to society.

The challenge is that youths today focus on getting white color jobs and ignore getting hands on skills that can enable them to create employment for themselves.

However, those who have made a step and a decision to go for hands on skills have made good use of their skills to come up with unique items that they sell and earn a living.

One of the skills they have learnt is to add value to bamboo and craft. Today experts explain the various things that can be made out of Bamboo

Bamboo charcoal

Ethan Lyagonda notes that Bamboo can be carbonized to make charcoal which can be used in cooking like the charcoal made out of trees.

He notes that the only difference this charcoal has is that it can be sold expensively because of the various uses it has like it can be used for removing toxins in the body and also cleansing the skin among other uses.

Bamboo bicycle frames

Noordin Kasoma who makes Bamboo bicycle frames notes that it takes creativity for someone to be able to craft an item out of Bamboo. He had to sit and think and come up with this idea of making Bamboo bicycle frames. Today he is earning from it. He even had to quit his job to concentrate on making bicycle frames out of Bamboo.

Bamboo lamp holders

Kasoma who also felt like throwing away the put cuts that he cuts from bamboo bicycle frames, had to be innovative enough that he decided to make lamp holders out of concrete and Bamboo.

"After making the lamp holder, he buys a lighting bulb and inserts it in the lamp holder so that it can give light," notes Kasoma.

Bamboo jewelry(earrings, necklaces and bangles)

Tom Sajjabi who makes jewelry out of Bamboo notes that this has greatly changed his life and he can never go looking for a job.

He says making jewelry is easy if you have the machines that can cut and help you craft any design or shape of jewelry you intend to make.

Bamboo cups/ pencil holders/glasses

Sajjabi notes that to get this idea, he had to sit and imagine how taking tea in a plastic cups is not fun at all. He decided to devise means of making Bamboo cups and glasses so that people can change from using plastic to glass cups. He also wanted to appreciate nature and make others love it too.

Bamboo Planter

"To those who plan to plant seeds in the nursery bed before transferring them to the main garden, consider harvesting mature Bamboo plants and then cut them into small segments, put soil and then plant the seeds, "says Sajjabi.

"Place them in the nursery and they will germinate with in the shortest time possible and you can now transfer the seedling to the main garden," explains Sajjabi.

Sticks for roasting meat, chicken

Kasoma says meat roasting sticks and tooth picks can be made out of Bamboo and these can help improve some ones financial status. He says others things like cosmetics can also be made out of Bamboo and this has helped many with skin problems.
