Fire guts Nakawa warehouse, factory

Fire has this morning gutted a Chinese shoes store and Salkem General Uganda limited a factory for toilet papers located in Kyambogo in, Nakawa division in Kampala, leaving property worth millions of shillings destroyed.

According to an eye witness, the fire started at around 3:30am.  "The Police Fire Brigade came an hour later and tried to save property," the eye witness said.

The cause of the fire was yet to be established. No causalities have been reported so far. Mr. Saleh Kalema the managing director of Salkem said he has lost over sh300m in the fire.

"I received a call when fire had just started from the shoe store, I rushed to call Police and they tried to put off the fire. Unfortunately most of our property has been destroyed," Kalema said.
