According to the Police, the centre will strengthen the investigative capacity of law enforcement agencies in the administration of justice, through application of modern scientific techniques, in compliance with international standards.

The centre is in line with a decision taken in 2012 when the East Africa Community (EAC) Council of Ministers resolved to have a regional Forensic Referral Centre (RFRC) hosted by Uganda.
