Bukuku Health Centre IV in Kabarole district has received a boost of an ambulance and more vital medical equipement.

The Burahya County Member of Parliament, Margaret Muhanga, while handing over the ambulance to the health facility on Monday said that the donation is part of her wider interventions to ensure effective health services among the people in the district.

"We have seen several mothers giving birth on the road because of lack of means to transport them to hospitals and others have even lost lives," Muhanga said.

Dr Richard Mugahi, the district health officer for Kabarole described the donation as a direct compliment to support government interventions in providing effective health service delivery.

"I am happy that the MP has come in to compliment and support the Government interventions because transportation of patients has been a big challenge in the district at times patients get stranded at health facilities," Mugahi said.

Mugahi said that the district local government with funds from the health ministry had also provided the facility with more beds to cater for the many patients who used to sleep on the floor.

Steven Asiimwe, the resident district commissioner for Kabarole warned the health workers against excessive consumption of alcohol and abandoning their duties.

Asiimwe said that his office was investigating claims by some local leaders that health workers in the district only work for few hours and spend most of their time in bars.

"There are some health workers who are on government payroll, but they have never even stepped at their duty stations we are investigating and we shall arrest them and prosecute them they are ever in bars, "Asiimwe said.
