The Police in Kabale district have arrested and detained two people over giving false information.

The culprits have been identified as Victor Twinamatsiko, a resident of Katoma village in Kitumba sub-county and Pratazio Twinomujuni, a resident of Ryeza cell in Muko sub-county.

Kigezi Police spokesperson Elly Maate said Twinamatsiko faked his own kidnap for a ransom of sh4m.

He apparently was hiding at Twinomujuni's residence the whole time.

According to Maate, Twinamatsiko called his relatives on October 31 and claimed that he was in Kampala being held by kidnappers and that if the sh4m wasn't paid, he would be harmed.

"His parents reported the matter to us, so we could rescue their son. Police initiated inquiries and started to track the phone call. The suspects were nabbed on Sunday," he said.

Maate condemned Twinamatsiko's actions, saying he should put his energy into working instead of fooling his parents.

He said they are investigating the matter and the duo will soon be presented in court for prosecution.
