Kamwenge residents express support for age limit removal

Residents vote for the removal of the age limit in Kabambiro, Kamwenge district on Friday

District leaders and supporters of National Resistance Movement (NRM) party in Kamwenge district on Friday anonymously endorsed the amendment of article 102(b) to remove age limit and allow one to stand for the presidency after clocking the age of 75.

During a consultative meeting by the Member of Parliament for Kibale East at Kambambiro in Kamwenge district, residents said that the age limit clause should be scrapped off from the Constitution.

Several NRM supporters marched on the streets of Kamwenge town council in support of the Bill.

John Mwesigye, a resident of Kabambiro said the Constitution should be amended in the interest of peace and security.

"We need peace and stability in the country and we shall achieve that if we only allow President Yoweri Museveni to stand again and lead Uganda," Mwesigye said.

He urged the youth not to be lured into violent acts by the people opposed to the removal of the age limit.

The consultation meeting was attended by sub-county, district and religious leaders who anonymously supported there MPs to vote for the amendment of the Constitution in Parliament.

Dorothy Nshaija, the Kamwenge district Woman MP asked other leaders to engage in peaceful consultations instead of resorting to violence.

She condemned Opposition politicians and activists for trying to stifle the debate on the proposal to remove the presidential age limit from the constitution.
