Katikkiro tips Buganda youth leaders on transparency

The Katikkiro of Buganda Charles Peter Mayiga has tasked youth leaders with taking a leading role in promoting transparency and accountability at all levels of leadership.

Mayiga said transparency and accountability are extremely important leadership qualities that should be upheld by all.

Mayiga made the call on Wednesday at the Bulange Mengo during swearing-in ceremony for the new Buganda Nkobazambogo leaders.

He noted that it was imperative on youth leaders to express interest in how the resources entrusted to them are effectively and efficiently utilised.

"Democracy thrives on truthfulness, fairness, accountability and transparency. Therefore, it has become necessary to impart such virtues on the youth," he said.

Mayiga, who commissioned the new seven-man team, stressed the need for accountability and transparency in the areas of service is to ensure public satisfaction and good governance.

"We believe that a full and robust democracy depend on the equal participation of young people, especially women. More inclusive governing and peace building processes will also take root," he said.

David Ssekatawa a second year student at Ndejje University has assumed the office of the chairperson at the Nkobazambogo national office replacing Mathew Sempa of Makerere University.

Both Nkobazambogo and Akaliba Akendo national leader's term came to end and the new leaders were elected at Bulange three weeks back.

These are one of the youth associations which are found in Buganda Kingdom, Nkobazambogo is basically students association and it's a Kingdom based group that promotes cultural values in pupils and students.

New appointees read and signed an oath swearing to be totally obedient to throne. The swearing ceremony was conducted by city lawyer Twaha Mukasa.

 The other members include Mary Namirimo (vice chairperson), Liz Natanda (secretary), Musa Nsubuga (treasurer), Prosy Nakyenga (rep women), Moses Mugambwa (culture) and Dan Bukenya (publicity).
