Kigezi High School old students re-unite to revamp their school

Over sh350m in cash and pledges was raised on the night and this will go towards several centenarial projects

Old students of Kigezi High School, a historical secondary school in Kabale district on Saturday came together to raise funds to renovate the school and restore it to its past glory.

The school is well known to have produced very outstanding personalities in this country and most of them turned up for the dinner held at Hotel Africa's Nile Hall and made contributions in fundraiser.

The school is responsible for producing the likes of retired Justice Kanyeihamba, Hon. Jim Muhwezi, Kizza Besigye, Amama Mbabazi, Emmanuel Mutebire, Hon David Bahati, Mondo Kagonyera, Abed Bwanika and Hon Fred Mwesigye among several more.

KCCA FC's Paul Mucureezi and Express FC Captain, David Ndihabwe are also some of the recently channeled out old students.

The guest of honour at the function Prime Minister Rt. Hon. Ruhakana Rugunda who is also an old boy of the school and patron of the old students' association (Kigezi High Old Students' Association) thanked his fellows for having worked out an initiative to bring together all old students of different generations for the common cause of rebuilding their school which is currently performing below par.

He also read a message by President Yoweri Museveni who in his letter called upon the old students to be transformation agents for the school that has produced many outstanding personalities in the district, region and nation at large. The president contributed sh50m to the cause.

While speaking at the function, Mondo Kagonyera also called upon his fellow old students not to refrain from giving back to the school that made them what they are today. "As old students, we have the responsibility to rebuild our school and return it to greatness. We ought to start giving back," he urged.

Speaker after speaker at the dinner urged the entire Kigezi High School community and well-wishers to work together to make the school great again.
