The idea was to create a platform where students showcase their entrepreneur skills and ideas as businesses.

Last year the College of Business and Management Sciences (CoBAMS) through the facilitators of Entrepreneurship Principles in the Department of Marketing and Management, School of Business launched the first ever entrepreneurship expo held at the Makerere university freedom square.

The idea was to create a platform where students showcase their entrepreneur skills and ideas as businesses.

Yet again this year on the October 27 the college held the 2nd annual entrepreneurship expo where over 100 business innovations were showcased in the university freedom square.

During a recent field tour, students (both undergraduate and graduate) were exposed to various business ideas. As a result, over 1000 students were able to establish 121 micro businesses (agriculture, service and manufacturing sectors) and these were exhibited during the expo.

According to Ritah Namisango the Public Relations Officer, Makerere University, the expo is a showcase of innovative ideas from University talented students meant to inspire and encourage the entrepreneurial spirit on campus among upcoming entrepreneurs.

"Students in the different exposition stands will be showcasing to their colleagues and the general community that it is not all theory at the University, that they can turn the theory learnt in class into something practical," she said.

The theme for the expo this year was "MAK has talent". The expo started at 9am with judges inspecting and evaluating students' projects for approval to appear on the expo. Each stall in the tents had a team leader and members of the entrepreneurship club showcasing.

Rosemary Atugonza, an entrepreneurship students and exhibitor showcased liquid soap and cosmetic lotions. "My target market is both students of Makerere University and the general public," she said.

The expo was crowned by an awarding ceremony where awards were given to best innovators, projects, exhibitors and entrepreneurs.
