Heavy rains could disrupt PLE in Amuru

The education officials in Amuru district are worried that the onset of heavy rains in the district could disrupt Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE) which are slated for Thursday and Friday.

The district inspector of schools Christopher Ochan said the roads leading to the district and other examination centres are in a very bad state, making them inaccessible when it rains heavily.

"Our prayers are that it should not rain during PLE because it would make accessing the sitting centres very difficult," Ochan said.

He said floods that occurred in August this year swept away several bridges cutting off some areas.

As a result of the floods, over 50 candidates from Okidi parish in Atiak Sub County have been relocated to sit their exams at Koroto Primary School after Okidi Bridge was swept away by floods.

He said UNEB has made clearance to that effect following a letter written by the district chief administrative officer.

The district education officer, Joyce Lanyero acknowledged the problems but said they are working with partners to address any eventuality that may emerge during the exams.

3,057 candidates are sitting PLE in Amuru district of which 2,022 are boys and 1,035 are girls.
