The Democratic Party (DP) has asked the Uganda Medical Board to allow Mukono Municipality MP Betty Nambooze to be flown out of the country for specialised medical treatment.

The party spokesperson, Fred Mwesigwa, said Nambooze's situation is deteriorating every day and that the medical board has refused to sign papers to allow her seek medical attention abroad.

"Efforts to get a signature from the board to okay the MP get specialised treatment have failed. We have petitioned the Speaker of Parliament for help," he said.

The Uganda Medical Board is mandated to authorise patients seeking medical attention abroad.

Nambooze was among the 10 MPs hurt after Special Forces Command operatives roughed them up inside Parliament recently.

During the scuffle, she sustained injuries. She is said to be nursing back pain.

Nambooze is said to have been diagnosed with a condition known as Limberspine at Kampala Imaging Centre in Kololo, Kampala.

Mwesigwa said consultants and doctors in the country have said she cannot get the treatment she needs in Uganda.

"The MP has been on pain killers for some time now. We demand that the Speaker orders the medical board to sign the release papers. After all, she sustained the injuries at Parliament, while at work," he said.
