Convicted former Tabliq Muslim sect leader Sheikh Yunus Kamoga has applied to be released on bail pending the hearing and final disposal of his appeal challenging his prison sentence.

Through his lawyers of Muwema and Company Advocates, Kamoga has filed his application in the Court of Appeal on grounds being of advanced age of more than 60 years, suffering from several ailments including ulcers and high blood pressure and his health being unsuitable for prison conditions.

Kamoga was convicted of terrorism by the International Crimes Division of the High Court and sentenced to spend the rest of his life in jail.

He has since appealed challenging both his conviction and sentences describing them as harsh and excessive.
