They had a lot of newspapers, instead of throwing them away; they thought they could do something good out of them
Many youth today walk the streets looking for jobs, but if they paid attention to what they have around them, they could really make good artistic items.
One of them is making good use of paper to make home decorative items that can really attract buyers and earn them an income.
Annie Zziwa and Proscovia Mbabazi add value to paper by making home decorative items.
They had a lot of newspapers, instead of throwing them away; they thought they could do something good out of them.
The two surfed the Internet for ideas.
Today they buy Manila paper from Kikuubo and make items out of paper.
“We fold the cut manila papers and make triangular shapes which we join and craft anything good for clients to buy,” says Zziwa.
“We use glue to bind the papers,” notes Zziwa.
Zziwa says that sometimes, they put flowers to make the piece look nice and appealing to the clients.
“We use exhibitions and social media to market the products. These have greatly marketed us and our clients increase every day,”Mbabazi explains.
The two sell their items mostly to artists. The biggest challenge is that they have to be creative enough to sustain their business.
“Sometimes clients come when they have something in mind that they want us to make. In case we fail, we lose out,” notes Mbabazi.
