A Kampala businessman, Tom Tugume has been dragged to court for allegedly obtaining sh300,000 from a betting company through dubious means.

Tugume 36, a resident of Nansana, was charged for obtaining money by false pretence under section 308 of the Penal Code.

It is alleged that in May while in Kiseka, Kampala, Tugume obtained credit worth sh200,000 from Home Bet company promising that he was going to pay back, whereas he did not.

Prosecution further alleges that between May and June in Nakivubo, Kampala, Tugume at Sekazibwe House obtained more credit amounting to sh100,000 from the same company.

The case has been allocated to Joan Achiro, the Buganda Road Grade 1 Magistrate.

Tugume has been told to respond to the summons within 15 days.

Tugume, who confirmed receiving the summons, wondered why he was summoned even when he apologised over the crime.

"Those people are my friends and I asked for forgiveness. I also promised to pay back. Why have they taken me to court?" Tugume lamented.
