The continued improper handling of women politicians deters many from joining active politics, women activists have noted.

The activists were reacting to the manner in which several women Members of Parliament were handled by security personnel during a fracas in Parliament Chambers.

"We are not saying that women should break the law and be left to walk scot-free, but as mothers of this nation they should be handled in a more dignified manner.

"You cannot arrest a women recklessly and expose her body," the executive director, Forum for Women in Democracy, Patricia Munabi Babiiha noted.

This was during the dialogue of women to mark the 55 years of Independence in Kampala.

"Women are supposed to be arrested by fellow women, not men. We are trying to find out those who effected the arrests because they embarrassed the mothers of the nation," she noted.

Munabi noted that such arrests stop more women from standing for elective positions.

"How do you expect more women to join politics when they see their leaders mistreated?" Munabi asked.
