Schools embrace Jovoc Independence Basketball Cup

The school organises the Jovoc Independence Open every October and the famous Jovoc Open in March

The third edition of the Jovoc Independence Cup kicked off today at St Joseph's Vocational School basketball courts in Nyamitanga, Mbarara district.

 

St Josephs (Jovoc) is a powerhouse in secondary school basketball in the western region and the school has been at the forefront of promoting the game by organising two tournaments annually: The Jovoc Independence Open every October and the famous Jovoc Open in March.

Some of the schools taking part in the tournament include the hosts Jovoc, Eden International School, Ntare School, Mbarara High Schoo, Nakivale Secondary School and many others.

The two tournaments accommodate both the secondary and university categories.

The man behind the tournaments, Alex Byamukama says children should play as well as they study. "We have enough facilities to host and promote the game. Basketball lovers and enthusiasts should joins us and we grow the sport," said Byamukama.
