Institutions to benefit from sh7b PSFU fund

About 22 institutions, both public and private, will benefit from the Private Sector Foundation Uganda (PSFU) grant aimed at promoting innovative training. According to Ruth Musoke, the Skills Development Facility project (SDF) co-ordinator, the $2m (about sh7b) grant is intended to support innovative training programmes. "We realise that although the market is very dynamic and the demands of the private sector are changing, what training institutions offer at times is outdated. They do not offer what the market needs. We allocated $2m (about sh7b) to training institutions that are keen on coming up with training programmes that are in demand and can take Uganda forward," Musoke says. "For instance, we have emerging sectors like oil and gas and in principle, many institutions do not have any interesting courses that would meet the demand of that sector. "The agricultural sector is changing; we are talking about green jobs, climate-friendly farming mechanisms and we realise the training being offered does not reflect that; but they can benefit from this project. "Innovative training is window three of the $21m SDF programme funded by the World Bank and the Government of Uganda through the finance ministry," she said. Other areas being supported by the project are skills shortage in the formal sector, skills shortage in informal sector like the jua kali and recognition of prior learning. The SDF provides grants to companies that are active in agribusiness, construction, manufacturing, internship, apprenticeship and industrial attachment. CLICK HERE FOR MORE ON THIS STORY
