The Catholic Church of Our Lady of Visitation, Nabbingo (in the civil district of Wakiso) has clocked 75 years since it was founded by the White Fathers (also called Missionaries of Africa), in 1942.
The celebrations on Sunday were presided over by the Metropolitan Archdiocese of Kampala, The Most Rev Dr Cyprian Kizito Lwanga.
The Prelate was assisted by the church's parish-priest, Fr Deogratias Bukenya and other priests affiliated to the parish.
Delivering his homily during the thanksgiving mass, Archbishop Lwanga commended the parishioners of Nabbingo, and their leaders, for their strong devotion to the faith, which had enabled them to champion many development projects.
He asked them to deepen their faith and also to remain in solidarity and loyalty with the leadership of the Church.
During the function, Lwanga officially commissioned and blessed the newly constructed grotto of Mary.
He also commissioned the Church's proposed presbytery, which is expected to consume about sh1bn. Lwanga also wedded three couples.
