Pearl of Africa Hotel, a five-star luxury facility is in Kampala city is slated to boost Uganda's tourism by attracting high class business people and tourists who have money to spend, the minister of state for foreign affairs, Okello Oryem has said.
He said that Uganda is one of the friendly countries with a wonderful atmosphere for tourists, which has been amplified by the emerging of world class facilities like Pearl of Africa Hotel.
The hotel recently partnered with a South African based Sovereign Hotels, which signed a contract to manage it.
The minister said while presiding over the commissioning of the facility, which cost $310m that he had travelled to many countries but Pearl Hotel was a unique structure that will go a long way in boosting Uganda's tourism.
"This is one of the best hotels I have come across, it is a fantastic investment and an inspiration to other investors," he said.
Stephen Asiimwe, the chief executive officer of the Uganda Tourism Board said that with the opening of two major highways, the renovated airport that will soon be completed and the launching of such facilities like Pearl of Africa Hotels, Uganda will soon become a major tourism destination.
He said the Government had embarked on another campaign to make Uganda the preferred
Destination for conferences and would start encouraging organizations to bring their conferences in Uganda.
Guests were served eats and drinks from four different venues, where they would transfer to a new highly decorated setting, courtesy of Sovereign Hotels, which recently took over the management of the hotel.
The function was crowned with fireworks, which unusually lasted for over 15 minutes.
Oryem assured investors that Uganda was one of the safest and peaceful countries in the region.
