Sports journalists under their umbrella USPA have this morning selected the She Cricket Cranes team sportsman for September.

In their monthly USPA-Nile Special meeting at Imperial Royale Hotel in Kampala, the sports scribes have voted the national women team for their excellence when they won the 2017 ICC Women Africa T20 championships in Namibia to pave way to compete in the group stages qualifiers for the world cup in 2018.

The ladies team pooled 400 votes beating golf player Ronald Rugumayo who won the 2017 Uganda Tusker Golf Open.

Rugumayo polled 335 votes to finish second.

The assembly also commended Betway Kobs rugby team for winning the national 2017 sevens circuit and Aziz Damani team for winning the Safari cricket circuit.

Journalists at the assembly have also passed on a condemnation voice for hooliganism at sports events sighting the recent saga at St Mary's Kitende when Vipers SC hosted SC Villa.

Its alleged Villa fans vandalized property and beat up several fans in protest of the referee's decision of not awarding them a penalty at one moment of the game.

"Journalists have condemned the act and termed it as backwardness. Sports fans should know there are rules of the game," USPA President Sabiiti Muwanga said.

Muwanga also said the quarterly Nile Special - USPA dinner for the winners of July, August and September will be held on October 11.
