1,000 miss graduation at Busoga University over fees

A total of 1,000 students missed graduation at Busoga University, over failure to clear their fees balance in time, while others failed to submit to the institution details of their birth.

This was revealed by the university vice-chancellor Prof. Lameck Kibikyo. The institution's 16th graduation ceremony took place at the university campus in Iganga town, on Friday.

He explained that plans are being made to have a mini-graduation ceremony in March 2018, during which students that missed out on Friday will graduate.

During the Friday ceremony, presided over by the chancellor, the Bishop of Busoga diocese Rt.Rev.Paul Samson Naimanhye, 980 students graduated with degrees, diplomas and certificates, amidst cheers and jubilation from parents and relatives.

Of these, 23 students got masters' degrees, 454 obtained bachelor's degrees, 30 got post graduate diplomas, 306 diplomas and 164 got certificates. Bachelors of education had the highest number of graduands at 218.

There were 17 Kenyans, one Tanzanian, 5 Nigerians and 15 South Sudanese, while the rest were Ugandan students.

Addressing the congregation, Professor Kibikyo said the purpose of education in the country is to ensure the young generation becomes self-supporting and independent.

Kibikyo urged graduands not to despise jobs, but instead take whatever they can get their hands on as long as they are able to earn a living.
