Man who killed child over trespassing jailed for life

A man who strangled a seven year old girl to death for trespassing on his piece of land has been sentenced to life imprisonment. 

David Angolere, 27, a resident of Lobok village in Napak district was sentenced to life imprisonment over the murder of Juliana Lochan after he was found guilty of the offence. 

Prosecution led by the Resident State Attorney, Zerald Amalo stated that the accused with malice aforethought, on March 26th, 2015, strangled Lochan to death at his home. 

Thereafter, the deceased's' body was dragged and dumped in a drying water pond identified as Nakwarath, less than 50 metres from Angolere's home in Napak district. 

It's alleged that Angolere had been uncomfortable with his neighbour and father of the deceased, Akwang Peter Okiria, over pigs destroying his cassava garden. 

Prosecution however through an affidavit from Teresa Ngiro noted that the accused had sworn to destroy any person or animal belonging to his neighbours, trespassing in his garden. 

Presenting his judgement, Justice Stephen Mubiru noted that the sentence could deter others planning to do the same to innocent people. 

"I sentence you for the rest of your life in prison," he said adding that the convict had a right to appeal in 14 days if he was not satisfied with the judgement. 

Moroto High Court criminal session which closes Friday has been dominated by murder cases with several deferred to the next sitting.
