Sewanyana wins regional rights award

Sewanyana said the award was a reaffirmation of FHRI’s commitment to fight for the rights of the marginalized in Uganda and the region at large.


The executive director, Foundation for Human Rights Imitative (FHRI), Dr Livingstone Sewanyana has received an award for his tireless effort towards human rights development.

Sewanyana said the award was a reaffirmation of FHRI's commitment to fight for the rights of the marginalized in Uganda and the region at large.

He qualified for the continental award that will be held in November 2017 in Johannesburg South Africa.

He received the accolade on September 22, 2017 at Kampala Serena Hotel from TITANS.

TITANS are people who build the nation and are recognized for their contribution to nation building. Titans are meant to inspire young people to participate in meaningful ventures that build their nations.

A call for nominations is published and the public is required to nominate their influential leaders in various categories such as: government employees, ICT, logistics and shipping, media, manufacturing and engineering, medical and veterinary, small, medium and large enterprises, sport, tourism & leisure and welfare and civil society organizations.

Sewanyana emerged the winner of the welfare and civil society organizations sector having competed with over 400 nominees from the East African region.

The most influential men within the various business sectors of the African economy are then profiled in the Titan's annual publication, Titans - Building Nations.

The chief executive officer Global Titans;  Annelize Wepener observed need to recognize the Titans who are building nations and who have achieved a lot for their nations in various sectors.

"Dr. Livingstone Sewanyana has speared headed a number of interventions locally and at regional level such as the campaign against the abolition against the death penalty in Uganda and the East African region," Memory Bandera Director Programmes and Administrator, Defend Defenders.
